I call on the representative of Ghana on a point of order.
I am speaking on behalf of the African group of States to challenge the presence of South

Africa in our midst. The African group is thoroughly dismayed at the presence of South Africa which, since 1974, has not participated in the work of the General Assembly.
3. Sir, I do not need to remind you of the ruling ofyour predecessor in 1974 on the credentials of South Afric~~.l The African group believes that South Africa has no vallid credentials to entitle it to be present here at the resumed thirty-third session of the United Nations General Assembly.
4. I repeat, the African group challenges the presence of South Africa at the resumed thirty-third session.
In view of the statement just made by the representative of Ghana, I request the Credentials Committee to meet immediately to consider the credentials of South Africa and to report to the General Assembly, if possible not later than 11 o'clock tomorrow morning.
