I should like to inform members that the following representatives, whom I congratu- late, have been elected Chairmen of the seven Main Committees of the Assembly and are accordingly members of the General Committee for the thirty- seventh session (decision 37/303): First Committee: Mr. James Victor Gbeho (Ghana); Special Political Committee: Mr. Abduldayem Mubarez (Yemen); Second Committee: Mr. O. O. Fafowora (Nigeria); Third Committee: Mr. Carlos Calero Rodrigues (Brazil); Fourth Committee: Mr. Rani Roa Kouri (Cuba); Fifth Committee: Mr. Andrzej Abraszewski (Poland); Sixth Committee: Mr. Philippe Kirsch (Canada). 6. I shall read the names of the countries nominated by each group: 6 African States: Congo, Liby&n Arab Jamahiriya, -Mali, Uganda, Upper Volta and Zambia; 5 Asian States: Cyprus, Democratic Yemen, Kuwait, Philippines and Qatar; 3 Latin American States: Haiti, Jamaica and Nicaragua; 2 Western European and other States: Austria and Turkey. 7. Since the number of candidates nominated by each group corresPonds to the number of seats to be filled in that group, I declare those candidates, in addition to the five permanent members ofthe Security Council, elected Vice-Presidents of the General Assembly. I congratulate the Vice-Presidents on their election. The representatives ofthe following Member States were elected by acclamation Vice-Presidents of the General Assembly: Austria, China, Congo, Cyprus, Democratic Yemen, France, Haiti, Jamaica, Kuwait, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Mali, Nicaragua, Philip- pines, Qalar, Turkey, Uganda, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, United States of America, Upper Volta and Zambia (decision 37/304). Pursuant to rule 31 of the rules of procedure, we shall now proceed to the election of the --lice-Presidents of the General Assembly, who are to be chosen in such a manner as to ensure the representative character of the General Committee. 3. All members of the General Assembly are eligible in this election except those already represented in the General Committee-namely, those countries whose representatives have been elected to the presidency ofthe General Assembly orto the chairman- ships of the Main Committees. 4.
