It is with deep regret that we have learned of the death of Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev, President of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and General Secretary of the Central Com- mittee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. 2. In view ofthis tragic event, I propose to cancel this morning's plenary meeting and to convene this afternoon a commemorative plenary meeting, at which the Secretary-General and·l, the Chairmen of the regional groups and other represen- tatives wH.I have an opportunity to pay a tribute to Leonid Brezhnev. 3. I assume that the Chairmen of the Main Committees will also wish to hold meetings today in order to call on those who wish to express their condolences.
