Adoption of the agenda
The agenda was adopted.
The situation in the Middle East Report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (S/2001/66)
The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda.
The Security Council is meeting in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.
Members of the Council have before them the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for the period from 18 July 2000 to 18 January 2001, document S/2001/66, and the letter dated 5 January 2001 from Lebanon, document S/2001/14.
Members of the Council also have before them document S/2001/87, which contains the text of a draft resolution prepared in the course of the Council’s prior consultations.
I should like to draw the attention of the members of the Council to document S/2001/55, letter dated 17 January 2001 from Israel.
It is my understanding that the Council is ready to vote on the draft resolution before it. Unless I hear any objection, I shall put the draft resolution (S/2001/87) to the vote now.
There being no objection, it is so decided.
