S/PV.4301 Security Council

The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Council is meeting in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations. Members of the Council have before them document S/2001/191, which contains the text of a letter dated 4 March 2001 from the Permanent Representative of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council. Members of the Council also have before them document S/2001/256, which contains the text of a draft resolution prepared in the course of the Council’s prior consultations. I should also like to draw the attention of the members of the Council to the following documents: S/2001/217, letter dated 12 March 2001 from the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General; S/2001/249, letter dated 20 March 2001 from the Permanent Representative of Albania to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council; and S/2001/251, letter dated 20 March 2001 from the Permanent Representative of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General. It is my understanding that the Security Council is ready to vote on the draft resolution before it. If I hear no objection, I shall put the draft resolution to the vote now. There being no objection, it is so decided. A vote was taken by show of hands. There were 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 1345 (2001). The Security Council has thus concluded the present stage of its consideration of the item on its agenda.
