Threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts

The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Council is meeting in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations. Members of the Council have before them document S/2005/495, which contains the text of a draft resolution submitted by Algeria, Argentina, Denmark, France, Greece, Japan, Romania, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the United Republic of Tanzania and the United States of America. It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the draft resolution before it. Unless I hear any objection, I shall now put the draft resolution to the vote. There being no objection, it is so decided.
A vote was taken by show of hands.
There were 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 1617 (2005). The Security Council has thus concluded the present stage of its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Council will remain seized of the matter.
