The meeting was called to order at 10.15 a.m.
The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Security Council is meeting in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.
Members of the Council have before them document S/2005/648, which contains the report of the Secretary-General on the situation concerning Western Sahara.
Members of the Council also have before them document S/2005/677, which contains the text of a draft resolution submitted by France, the Russian Federation, Spain, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America.
I wish to draw the attention of members to document S/2005/602, containing the text of a letter dated 23 September 2005 from the Permanent
Representative of Morocco to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council, and document S/2005/605, which contains the text of a letter dated 26 September 2005 from the Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council.
It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the draft resolution (S/2005/677) before it. If I hear no objection, I shall now put the draft resolution to the vote.
There being no objection, it is so decided.
A vote was taken by show of hands.
