S/PV.6031 Security Council

The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Council is meeting in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations. Members of the Council have before them document S/2008/708, which contains the text of a letter dated 14 November 2008 from the President of the Security Council addressed to the Secretary- General. At this meeting, the Council will hear a briefing by Mr. Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata, head of the Security Council mission to Afghanistan and Permanent Representative of Italy. I would like to welcome the return of the members of the Council and the Secretariat who took part in the mission to Afghanistan. I now give the floor to Mr. Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata, head of the Security Council mission to Afghanistan.

On behalf of the Council, I should like to express gratitude and appreciation to all of the members of the Security Council mission, which was very ably led by Ambassador Terzi, for the manner in which they discharged their important responsibility on behalf of the Council. There are no further speakers inscribed on my list. The Security Council has thus concluded the present stage of its consideration of the item on its agenda.
