Adoption of the agenda

The situation in Afghanistan

Under rule 37 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure, I invite the representative of Afghanistan to participate in this meeting. The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. Members of the Council have before them document S/2013/599, which contains the text of a draft resolution submitted by Australia. I also wish to draw Council members’ attention to document S/2013/535, which contains the report of the Secretary-General on the situation in Afghanistan and its implications for international peace and security. It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed tohe vote on the draft resolution before it. I shall put the draft resolution to the vote now.
A vote was taken by show of hands.
There were 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 2120 (2013). The Security Council has thus concluded the present stage of its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Council will remain seized of the matter.
