The agenda was adopted.

International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals

The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Council has before it the text of a statement by the President on behalf of the Council on the subject of today’s meeting. I thank Council members for their valuable contributions to this statement. In accordance with the understanding reached among the members of the Council, I shall take it that the members of the Security Council agree to the statement, which will be issued as a document of the Security Council under the symbol S/PRST/2022/2. Before adjourning the meeting, as this is the last scheduled meeting of the Council for the month of March, I would like to express the sincere appreciation of the delegation of the United Arab Emirates to the members of the Council and to the secretariat of the Council for all the support they have given to us. Indeed, it has been a busy and challenging month, in which we grappled with several important issues on the Council’s agenda. We have been able to reach consensus several times and have delivered achievements that we can build upon. We must continue our efforts to fulfil the mandate of the Security Council and to speak in one voice. What we achieved this month would not have been possible without the hard work, support and positive contributions of every delegation and the representatives of the Secretariat, as well as that of the interpreters and administrative and security staff. As we end our presidency, I know I speak on behalf of the Council in wishing the delegation of the United Kingdom good luck in the month of April. I shall now give the floor to those members of the Council who wish to make statements.
As this is the last meeting of your presidency, I would like to thank and congratulate you, Madam President, at the end of your Council presidency. It is no exaggeration to say that we had a very busy month. Nevertheless, your presidency was very successful. Your credible stewardship of the Council was very effective, professional and balanced. Those are the characteristics that distinguish the diplomacy of the sisterly United Arab Emirates. We also wish every success in April to our colleagues from the delegation of the United Kingdom.
