Adoption of the agenda

The agenda was adopted.
The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. Members of the Council have before them document S/2022/426, which contains the text of a draft resolution submitted by the United States of America. I wish to draw the attention of Council members to document S/2022/366, which contains the thirty-fourth report of the Secretary-General pursuant to paragraph 4 of Security Council resolution 2107 (2013), and document S/2022/368, which contains the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of resolution 2576 (2021). The Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the draft resolution before it. I shall put the draft resolution to the vote now.
A vote was taken by show of hands.
The draft resolution received 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 2631 (2022). I shall now give the floor to those members of the Council who wish to make statements.
India welcomes the unanimous adoption of resolution 2631 (2022) to extend the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). Our vote in favour of the resolution reflects the historical and long-standing friendship between India and Iraq. Iraq and its people have been wearied by the scourge of terrorism. As Iraq continues its efforts towards economic recovery, reconciliation and reconstruction, it needs the support of the United Nations and the international community. In that regard, India appreciates the work of UNAMI and its close cooperation with the Government of Iraq in providing the necessary assistance sought by it to tackle the multiple challenges faced by the country. However, it is equally important to ensure that the focus of UNAMI not be distracted by additional responsibilities that either duplicate or can otherwise be efficiently executed by the competent agencies in Iraq. Furthermore, we have consistently maintained that issues of climate change should be addressed holistically through the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in accordance with its provisions and principles, especially those concerning climate finance and adaptation, and the Paris Agreement, and that no artificial link should be drawn between climate change and security-related issues without any firm scientific basis.
