United Nations S/RES/1677 (2006) Security Council Distr.: General 12 May 2006 Resolution 1677 (2006) Adopted by the Security Council at its 5436th meeting, on 12 May 2006 The Security Council, Recalling its relevant resolutions on the situation in Timor-Leste, in particular its resolution 1599 (2005) of 28 April 2005, Expressing its deep concern over the 28/29 April incidents as well as the ensuing situation, and acknowledging the actions of the Government of Timor-Leste to establish an investigation into the incidents, their effects and causes, Remaining fully committed to the promotion of long-lasting stability in Timor-Leste, 1. Decides to extend the mandate of the United Nations Office in Timor-Leste (UNOTIL) until 20 June 2006; 2. Requests the Secretary-General to provide the Council by 6 June 2006 with an update on the situation in Timor-Leste and the role of the United Nations in Timor-Leste following the expiration of the mandate of UNOTIL with a view to taking further action on the subject; 3. Encourages the Government and other State institutions of Timor-Leste, with the assistance from UNOTIL within its current mandate, to address the causes of the violence in order to prevent a recurrence of such incidents; 4.
