A/43/PV.77 General Assembly

Saturday, Dec. 13, 1986 — Session 43, Meeting 77 — Geneva — UN Document ↗

The President [Spanish] #9323
Before I adjourn the meeting, I should like to deal with a problem that we face on Thursday. Approxi~tely 20 representatives have inscribed their names to speak on Thursday afternoon. That means that that meeting would have to last four and a half hours. But the number of draft resolutions on which we shall to vote, without the help of our electronic equipment, is such that the time needed for that procedure will be no less than four years. It is therefore impossible, with such a 1ist of speakers and that time needed for the voting, to conclude on Thursday at 6 p.m., as planned. (Mr. Borg Olivier, Rapporteur, Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People) Accordingly, I seek the understanding of all representatives in asking that all those who have inscribed their names to speak on Thursday afternoon be good enough to help me by instead putting down their names to spe~k in the meeting that will begin at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. I apologize for my insistence, but I remind representatives that by a resolution of the Assembly, three days were devoted to these meetings, and that the Fifth Committee allocated resources for only three days. Therefore, we must complete our work in three days. The meeting rose at 11.55 a.m. (The President)
