S/PV.10100 Security Council

Friday, Jan. 30, 2026 — Session 81, Meeting 10100 — New York — UN Document ↗

Provisional
The meeting was called to order at 3.05 p.m.

Adoption of the agenda

The agenda was adopted.
The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. I wish to draw the attention of Council members to document S/2026/8, which contains the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations operation in Cyprus; and document S/2026/9, which contains the report of the Secretary-General on his mission of good offices in Cyprus. Members of the Council have before them document S/2026/50, which contains the text of a draft resolution submitted by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the draft resolution before it. I should like to inform the Council that the presidency of the Council has met with the representatives of the parties, who have confirmed that they maintain their well-known positions vis-à-vis the item on the Council’s agenda. On the basis of those meetings, with the consent of the members of the Council, the presidency has drawn the conclusion that the Council can proceed to take a decision on the draft resolution before it. If I hear no objection, I shall put the draft resolution to the vote now. There being no objection, it is so decided.
A vote was taken by show of hands.

Abstaining:
The draft resolution received 13 votes in favour, none against and 2 abstentions. The draft resolution has been adopted as resolution 2815 (2026). There are no more names inscribed on the list of speakers. Before adjourning the meeting, as this is the last scheduled meeting of the Council for the month of January, I would like to express the sincere appreciation of the delegation of Somalia to the members of the Council, and to the Secretariat of the Council for all the support they have given us. Indeed, it has been a busy and eventful month, and one in which we rallied to consensus on several important issues within our purview. We could not have done it alone and without the hard work, support and positive contributions of every delegation and the representatives of the Secretariat, including the technical support team, conference service officers, interpreters, translators, verbatim reporters and security staff. As we end our presidency, I know I speak on behalf of the Council in wishing the delegation of the United Kingdom good luck in the month of February.
The meeting rose at 3.10 p.m.
