The following candidates have received the required majority of votes in the Council: Mr. Hardy C. Dillard, Mr. Eduardo Jimenez de ArBchaga, Mr. Platon D. Morozov and Mr. Federico de Castro. 6. The Council will have to proceed to a second ballot for the fifth place, since only four of the candidates have received the required eight votes or more. 7. In this ballot members may vote for one candidate only and any ballot paper which contains more than one vote will be invalid. It is not possible in this second ballot to vote for any one of the four candidates who received eight or more votes in the previous ballot. Since the required majority has been obtained by Mr. Louis Ignacio-Pinto, the lSecurity Council has now five candidates which have received eight or more votes. I shall now communicate the results to the President of the General Assembly and would ask the Council to remain in session until the President of the General Assembly has informed the Council of the results of the voting in the Assembly. The meeting was suspended at 5.5p.m. and resumed at 5.10 p.m.

I have received a letter from the President of the General Assembly informing the Council that at the 1790th plenary meeting held this afternoon for the purpose of electing five members of the International Court of Justice, the following candidates obtained the required majority of votes: Mr. Eduardo JimCnez de ArBchaga, Mr. Hardy C. Dillard, Mr. Platon D. Mtorozov, Mr. Federico de Castro and Mr. Louis Ignacio-Pinto. 14. Inasmuch as those whom I have named also received the required majority of votes in the Security Counlcil, they have been elected members of the International Clourt of Justice for a term of office of nine years, beginning on 6 February 1970. 15. It remains for me only to thank the members of the Council for their patience and to congratulate those who have been elected today on their election to this high office. 16. As we have concluded our business for today, unless there is objection I shall adjourn the meeting. The meeting rose at 5.15 p.m.
