On 9 October 1975, acting in accordance with rule 59 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary- General circulated, in document S/11848, the application of the Comoros for admission to membership in the United Nations.

4. Under the provisions of rule 59, unless the Security Council decides otherwise, such applications shill be refkrred by the President of the .&G;!i% the Committee on Admission of New Members. Accordingly, and unless I hear a proposal to the contrary, I shall refer the admission of the Comoros to the Committee on Admission of New Members for examination and report.

5; As there has been no other proposal, I take it that the Council agrees to follow the procedure I have outlined.

It was so decided.
In view of the fact that members of the Security Council are at present under agood deal of pressure of other business, I understand that it is the general hope that the consideration of the application of the Comoros may be concluded this very afternoon. Accordingly, I shall request the Committee on Admission of New Members to give urgent consideration to this application and to .hold its meeting immediately after the adjournment of the present meeting of the Security Council.
I should *like first of all, to express, on behalf of all members of the Security Council, our warm appreciation -to Ambassador El Hassen of Mauritania for his services as President of the Security Council during the month of September.
2. l--!is courtesy and &iii ifi dire$ting the meetings of the Security Council and the informal consultations during the past month were of great assistance to the Council and deserve our warmest thanks.
7. I would hope that the Committee will be in a position to prepare its rep@ speedily, so that the Security Council will be able to take it up at 3 o’clock this afternoon.
