S/PV.2828 Security Council
As this is the first meeting
of the Security Council this month, I should like to pay a warm tribute, on behalf
of the Council and on my own,behalf, to my predecessor, Mr. Pierre-Louis Blanc,
Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, for his dedicated Service
as President of the Council for the month of September. I am sure I speak for all
members in expressing our admiration and deep appreciation to Ambassador Blanc for
the diplomatic skill and courtesy with which he conducted the Council's business
during the month of September.
ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA
The agenda was adopted.

The Security Council will now begin itsconsideration of
the item on its agenda.
The Security Council is meeting today in accordance with the understanding
reached in the Council's prior consultations.
Members of the Council have before them document S/20250, which has been
prepared in the course of the Council's consultations and which contains the .text
of a draft resolution.
Members of the Council also have the following documents before them: .S/19834 .."
and S/19835, letters dated respectively 14 -and 22 April 1988 from th,e
Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council, and S/19836,
letter dated 25 April 1988 from the President of the Security Council.addressed to
the Secretary-General.

It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the
draft resolution before it. Unless I.hear any objection, I shall put the draft
resolution to the vote now.
There being no objection, it is so decided.
A vote.was taken by show of hands.
In favour: Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Federal
Republic of, Italy, Japan, Nepal, Senegal, Union of Soviet
Socialist Republics, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland, United States of America, Yugoslavia, Zambia
There were 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has
therefore been adopted unanimously as resolution 622 (1988).
The Security Council has thus concluded the present stage
of the item on the agenda.
