am sure I speak for all.members of the Council in expressing our appreciation of
the skill and dynamism with which he anducted the business of the Council last
month.
ADOPTION OF THE ACENDA
The agenda was adopted.
THESITUATION IN THEMIDDLE EAST
REPORT OF Tl& SECRETARY-GENERAL ON THE UNITED NATIONS DISENGAGEMtiTOBSERVER FORCE (S/20651)

The Security Council will now begin its consideration Of
the item on its agenda.
Metiers of the Council have before them the report of the Secretary-General on
the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for the period 18 November 1988 to
22 May 1989 (S/20651).
Menbers of the Council also have before them a draft resolution, contained in
document S/20656, which has been prepared in the course of the Council's
consultations.
Unless .I .hear any objection, I shall now put the draft resolution to the
volie. There being no objection, it is so decided,
A vote was taken by show of hands.
In favour: Algeria, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Ethiopia, Finland,
France,,Malaysia, Nepal, Senegal, Union of Soviet Socialist
Republics, United Kingdom of Great Britain and mrthern Ireland,
United States of America and Yugoslavia.
The PRESIDENTr There were 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has
therefore been adopted unanimously as resolution 633 (1989).
In connection with the resolution just adopted on the renewal of the mandate
of the United Nations Disengagement &server Force, I have been authorized to make
the following complementary statement on behalf of the Security Council:
"As is known, the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations
Disengagement Observer Force (S/20651) states, in paragraph 24:
'Despite the present quiet in the Israel-Syria sector, the situation
in the Middle East as a whole continues to be potentially dangerous and
is likely to remain so, unless and until a comprehensive settlement
oovering all aspects of the Middle East problem can be reached.'
"That statement of the Secretary-General reflects the view of the
Security Council."
The Security Council has thus concluded the present stage of its consideration
of the item on its agenda.
