I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate our distinguished colleague and friend the Permanent Representative of Zaire, Ambassador Bagbeni Adeito Nsengeya, on his appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs of his country. We wish him every success in his new important \ position in his Government. Hr. BAGEENI ADEITO NZENGEYA (Zaire) (inter-pretation from French): Allow me to thank you, Mr. President, for the warm congratulations you addressed to me on my appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs of my country. I should like to take this opportunity to express to all members of the Council, the Secretary-General and all his colleagues my deep feelings of gratitude for the sincere cooperation they have extended to me auring my mandate in the Security Council. Once again, I should like to thank you all and to say what a pleasure it has been for me to work with you in the Council. ADOPTXON OF THE AGENDA The3 was a&32&d . THE SITUATION IN TEE MIDDLE EAST REPORT OF TBE SECRETARY-GENERAL ON TBE UNITED NATIONS DISENGAGEMENT OBSERVER FORCE (6123233 and Corr.1) The PRW: The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. Members of the Council have before them the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement document 6123233 an& Corr.1. Members of the Council also have before them a draft resolution, contained in document S/23250, which has been prepared in the course of the Council's consultations. (The) It is my understanding that the Council is resay to proceed to the vote on the draft resolution before it. Unless I hear any objection, I shall put draft resolution S/23250 to the vote now. There being no objection, it is so aeciaea. A vote was taken bv show of hands. Ig favour: Austria, Belgium, China, C&e d'IvOire* Cuba, Ecuador, France, India, Romania, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northerrr Ireland, United States of America, Yemen, Zaire, Zimbabwe The PRESIDE&IT: There were 15 votes in favour. The draft reaolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 722 (1991). In connection with the resolution just adopted on the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, I have been authorised to make the following complementary statement on behalf of the Security Council: "A8 is known, the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nation8 Disengagement Observer Force (S/23233 and Corr.1) states, in paragraph 24: “‘Despite the present quiet in the Israel-Syria sector, the SituatiOn in the Middle East as a whole continues to be potentially dangerous and is likely to remain so , unless and until a compreheaaive settlement covering all aspects of the Middle East problem CBS be reached. * The Security Council has thus concluded the present stage of it8 consideration of the item on the agenda.
