The President on behalf of Council unattributed #142963
As this is the first meeting of the Security Council for the month of July, I should like to take this opportunity to pay a tribute, on behalf of the Council, to His Excellency Mr. Paul Noterdaeme, Permanent Representative of Belgium to the United Nations, for his service as President of the Security Council for the month of June 1992. I am sure that I speak for all members of the Security Council in expressing deep appreciation to Ambassador Noterdaeme for his untiring efforts and dedication and for the great diplomatic skill and unfailing ‘courtesy with which he conducted the Council's business last month. The President unattributed #142964
The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. In a letter dated 6 May 1992 addressed to the Secretary-General, the President of the State Council of the i} Republic of Georgia submitted the application of ‘his country for membership in the United Nations. That letter has been circulated in document S/24116. Under the provisions of rule 59 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, unless the Council decides otherwise, an application for membership shall be referred by the President of the Council to the Committee | on the Admission of New Members. Accordingly, unless I hear:.a proposal to the (The President} contrary, I shall refer the application of the Republic of Georgia to the Committee on the Admission of New Members for examination and report. There being no objection, it is so decided. I would propose that the Committee on the Admission of New Members meet this afternoon, Thursday, 2 July 1992, at 4.30 in Conference Room 7 to consider the application of the Repulbic of Georgia for membership in the United Nations. The date of the subsequent meeting of the Security Council to consider and to take a decision on the report of the Committee will be set and communicated to members. the meeting rose at 11,40 a.m.
