The PRESIDENT: (interpretation from Chinese): I should like to inform the Council that I have received a letter from the representative of Somalia, in which she requests to be invited to participate in the discussion of the item on the Council's agenda. In accordance with the usual practice, I propose, with the consent of the Council, to invite that representative to participate in the discussion without the right to vote, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Charter ane rule 37 of the Council's provisional rules of procedure. There being no objection, it is so decided.
The PRESIDENT (interpretation from Chinese): The Security Council will now hegin its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Security Council is meeting in accordance with the understanding rsached in its prior consultations. Members of the Council have before them the report of the Secretary-General on the situation in Somalia, pursuant to Security Council resolution 767 (1992), contained in documents 8/24480 and Add.1l. Members also have before them document 8/24497- which contains the text of a draft resolution prepared in the course of the Council's prior consultations, I wish to draw members' attention to the tenth preambular paragraph of the draft resolution, where a small correction should be made. The word "initiative" should be changed to "initiatives" - in its plural form. It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the draft resolution before it (S/24497). Unless I hear any objection, I shall put it to the vote now. There being no objection, it is so decided. A-vote was taken by show of hands. In _ favour: Austria, Belgium, Cape Verde, China, Ecuador, France, Hungary, India, Japan, Morocco, Russian Federation, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, United States of America, Venezuela, Zimbabwe
The PRESIDENT (interpretation from Chiness): There were 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 775 (1992). The Security Council has thus concluded the present stage of its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Security Council will remain seized of the matter.
