The Security Council will now begin its consideration of
the item on its agenda.
In a letter dated 4 January 1993 addressed to the Secretary-General, the Prime
Minister of the Czech Republic submitted the application of his country for
membership in the United Nations. That letter has been circulated in document
S/25045.
Under the provisions of rule 59 of the provisional rules of praceduro of the
Security Council, unless the Council decides otherwise, an application for
membership shall be referred by the President of the Council to the Commit&tee on
the Admission of New Members, Accordingly, unless I hear a praposal to the
contrary, I shall refer the application of the Czech Republic to the Committee for
examination and report.
AS I hear no objection, it is so decided,
I would propose that the Committee on the Admission of Now bk?JnberS msc:t today,
7 January 1993, in Conference Room 6, immediately following the meeting of the
Committee for consideration of the application of the Slovak Republic, to consider
the application of the Czech Republic for membership in the United Nations and
report to the Security Council. The date of the subsequent meeting QE the Cauncil
to consider and to take a decision on the report of the Committee will be set and
communicated to the members later,
The Council has thus concluded its consideration of the matter before it.
The meeting rose at 12.45 P.m.
