The Security Council has met in order, concurrently with the General Assembly, to elect a member of the IntematiomU Court of Justice to fi11 the vacancy caused by the resignation of Juelge Golunsky. 2. I wish to draw the attention of the members of the Council to the varions documentsrelating to the election which have beencirculated tothem: the' memorandum by the Secretary-General circu1ated on 24 November 1953, containing an introouctory note and explaining the procedure we mu~ fùllow [S/3144] ; a. list of candidates nom.inated by national groups, Clrcu1ated on 27 October 1953 [S/3127]' il note in ~hich the Secretary-General states that he bas been mfonnedthat Mr. Choucri Kardahi, who hadbeen ï1~minated by the Lebanese national group,wished to Wlthdraw [S/ 31271Add.2] ; and notice that the Belgian ~elegation has withdrawn the candidature Qf Mr, de visscher [S/3127/Add.1]. 8. l have now received the following communication, dated 27 November 1953, from the President of the General Assembly: "1 have the honour to inform you that at the first meeting of the General·Assembly held on 27 November 1953 for the purpose of elecnng a. memher of the Internatiànal Court of Justice ta fi.!l the vacancy caused by the resignation of Judge 'Sergei Aleksandrovich Golunsky, l Mr. Feodor Ivanovich Kozhevnikov (USSR) has obtained an absolute majority of votes in the General Assembly.
