S/PV.9951 Security Council

Monday, June 30, 2025 — Session 80, Meeting 9951 — New York — UN Document ↗

Provisional

Adoption of the agenda

The agenda was adopted.

The situation concerning the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. Members of the Council have before them document S/2025/422, which contains the text of a draft resolution submitted by France. The Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the draft resolution before it. I shall put the draft resolution to the vote now.
A vote was taken by show of hands.
The draft resolution received 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 2783 (2025). I now give the floor to those members of the Council who wish to make statements after the vote.
My statement will be very brief. France thanks all the members of the Council for their participation in the negotiations. The sanctions regime and its group of experts are essential tools to fight against violence and destabilization in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, as recalled by the Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone last Friday (see S/PV.9948). Friday’s meeting also allowed us to highlight the important step of an agreement being concluded between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, through the facilitation of the United States. The Council’s unified voice today on the crisis in the Great Lakes region contributes to supporting all the peace efforts under way. Together, we must pursue this commitment to support peace in the region.
There are no more names inscribed on the list of speakers. Before adjourning the meeting, as this is the last scheduled meeting of the Council for the month of June, I would like to express the sincere appreciation of the delegation of Guyana to the members of the Council and to the Secretariat for all the support they have given to us. Indeed, it has been a busy month and one in which we rallied to consensus on several important issues within our purview. We could not have done it alone and without the hard work, support and positive contributions of every delegation and the representatives of the Secretariat, including the technical support team, conference service officers, interpreters, translators, verbatim reporters and security staff. As we end our presidency, I know I speak on behalf of the Council in wishing the delegation of Pakistan good luck in the month of July.
The meeting rose at 3.10 p.m.
