China appreciates the adoption of resolution 71/253, entitled “Report of the International Criminal Court”. This technical rollover text is a product of compromise among the parties. Although the text fails to capture the Court’s developments over the past year, China had no major difficulty in accepting the resolution and therefore joined in the consensus.

Our delegation is disappointed that in considering resolution 71/253 today, the approaches of States that are not parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) were not taken into account. I have requested the floor to put Pakistan’s position on record. Pakistan has had a consistent position on this and other issues, and as other States have mentioned, it is not bound by the provisions of the instrument to which it is not party. We would like to put that position on record.
