The Security Council, Having considered the report of the Secretary-General on the recent meeting between the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus and on his assessment of the current situation, 8 March 1990 (5/21183), Recalling its relevant resolutions on Cyprus, 22 February 1990, Recalling the statement of the President of the Security Council of (8/21160) calling upon the leaders of the two communities to demonstrate the necessary goodwill and flexibility and to co-operate with the Secretary-General on the resolution of the Cyprus problem, Expressing its regret that, in the more than 25 years since the establishment of UNFICYP, it has not been possible to achieve a negotiated settlement of all aspects of the Cyprus problem, Concerned that at the recent meeting in New York it has not been possible to agree on an overall framework for an agreement, 1. Reaffirms in particular its resolution 367 (1975) as well as its support for the 1977 and 1979 high-level agreements between the leaders of the two communities in which they pledged themselves to establish a bi-communal Federal Republic of Cyprus based on the principles of sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and non-alignment, and excluding any form of partition or secession; 2. Expresses its full support for the current efforts of the Secretary-General in carrying out his mission of good offices concerning Cyprus, and calls upon the leaders of the two communities to pursue their efforts to reach a mutually acceptable solution providing for a bi-zonal federation that will be in line with the present resolution and the relevant principles. tcheJr 1977 and 1979 hlgh-Jevel agreement8 Jn the fJrbt Jngt-Ance and on an urgent wieh che Secrecary-General In completlng, ana to co-operate , on an equal footlng, bagf8 , an outlino of an overal] agreemant , 08 agraed In June 1989 $ Requeata the Secretary-General to Purgue hig mig0fon of good office8 in order co achJeve by makIng guggestlons co two communItiee the 0arllest Pobsible progrebe and, the aiac488ions }fac lftate cowara this ena , to 8891st the aggravate Salle on the partles concernea co refrain from any action that could5 ,theBItuatlon} Pecdea co remaln actIvely b0fa0a o€ the 8icuation and che current @Efort } 7 , 1990 of che progr0g8 made In resuming theRequestia the Secrecary-General co inform che Council in hfs report due by an May 31 agr aed outline of an overall agreement in 1ine with the present rebolution.intenglve talks ana In developing
