We shall now proceed to consider draft resolution A/50/L.57. I shall now call on the representative of Mexico who wishes to make a statement in explanation of position before action is taken on the draft resolution. May I remind delegations that explanations of vote are limited to 10 minutes and should be made by delegations from their seats.

The delegation of Mexico will vote in favour of the draft resolution in document A/50/L.57. Millions of land-mines remain dangerously hidden as cruel instruments bearing witness to wars. Particularly distressing are explosions of these devices in areas where conflicts have already been settled. Mexico, of course, takes a positive view of measures to ease the suffering of the thousands of victims…
