Vote Consensus — A/56/PV.37
Speeches following this vote (4)
The Acting President
The Assembly will now take a decision on draft resolution A/56/L.8 as a whole.
May I take it that the Assembly decides to adopt draft resolution A/56/L.8 as a whole?
The Acting President
I shall now call on the representative of Belgium, who wishes to speak in explanation of position on the resolution just adopted. May I remind delegations that explanations of vote or position are limited to 10 minutes and should be made by delegations from their seats.
I have the honour to speak on behalf of the European Union. The European Union recognizes the importance of preventing the exploitation of the environment in armed conflict. The European Union is, however, opposed in principle to the establishment of new United Nations international days. For that reason the European Union abstained in the vote on draft resolution A/56/L.8.
The Acting President
May I take it that it is the wish of the General Assembly to conclude its consideration of agenda item 171?
It was so decided.
