1. At the 1577th meeting of the Security Council (S/10306) on 14 September 1971, the Security Council had before it the application of Qatar for admission to membership in the United Nations. The President referred the application to the Committee for examination and report in accordance with rule 59 of the provisional rules of procedure.
2. At its 37th meeting, held on 14 September 1971, the Committee considered the application of Qatar and unanimously decided to recommend to the Security Council that Qatar be admitted to membership in the United Nations.
3. The Committee, recalling its recommendation in its report of 16 August 1971 (S/10294), further decided to have recourse to the last paragraph of rule 60 of the provisional rules of procedure.
4. Accordingly, the Committee decided to recommend to the Security Council the adoption of the following draft resolution:
"The Security Council, having examined the application of Qatar for admission to the United Nations (S/10306), recommends to the General Assembly that Qatar be admitted to membership in the United Nations."
