The Security Council,
Reaffirming its primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace
and security in accordance with the UN Charter;
Underlining its commitment to support the implementation of the General
Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its annexes thereto
(collectively the Peace Agreement, S/1995/999, Annex);
Being Guided by the established practice of decision-making on the appointment
procedure of the High Representative on Bosnia and Herzegovina;
1. Welcomes and agrees to the designation by the Steering Board of the Peace
Implementation Council (PIC) on 27 May 2021 of Mr. Christian Schmidt as High
Representative in succession to Mr. Valentin Inzko on the understanding that he will
operate on the basis of Annex 10 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in
Bosnia and Herzegovina and request of the Bosnian Parties;
2. Decides that powers of High Representative described in the conclusion
of the Peace Implementation Conference (Bonn, 1997) are no longer required given
the progress achieved by Bosnian Parties;
3. Supports the appointment of the High Representative for Bosnia and
Herzegovina, as stipulated in the Annex X of the General Framework Agreement for
peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina (collectively the Peace Agreement, S/1995/999,
Annex X) until 31 July 2022 with subsequent closure of the Office of the High
Representative;
4. Decides to remain seized of the matter.
