The Security Council,
Having examined the application of the People's Republic of Angola for admission to the United Nations (S/12064),

5. In the course of the discussion at that meeting, the representatives of France, Guyana, Italy, Japan, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland expressed their support for the application. The representative of China stated: "Since last June when the Security Council considered the application of Angola for membership in the United Nations, there has been no fundamental change in the situation. Therefore, the Chinese delegation is still unable to associate itself with the recommendation."
6. The representative of the United States of America stated: "The United States delegation is not able to support the draft resolution but does not wish to stand in the way of the admission of Angola to membership in the United Nations."
We will explain our position in the way of its adoption by the Committee on the Admission of New Members.
