REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON THE ADMISSION OF NEW MEMBERS CONCERNING THE APPLICATION OF ZIMBABWE FOR MEMBERSHIP IN THE UNITED NATIONS

1. At the 2243rd meeting on 29 July 1980, the application of Zimbabwe for admission to membership in the United Nations was considered. In accordance with rule 59 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the application was referred to the Committee on the Admission of New Members for examination and report. 2. At its 66th meeting on 29 July, the Committee considered the application of Zimbabwe and unanimously decided to recommend to the Security Council that Zimbabwe be admitted to membership in the United Nations. 3. Accordingly, the Committee recommends to the Security Council the adoption of the following draft resolution: - The Security Council, having examined the application of Zimbabwe for admission to the United Nations, recommends to the General Assembly that Zimbabwe be admitted to membership in the United Nations. 4. At the same meeting, the Committee decided to propose the inclusion of a new item entitled "Admission of New Members to the Security Council" in the agenda of the eleventh special session of the General Assembly.
