Reaffirming its resolution 687 (1991) of 3 April 1991, and in particular paragraph 2, 3, and 4 thereof, its resolution 689 (1991) of 9 April 1991, its resolution 773 (1992) of 26 August 1992, and its resolution 806 (1993) of
Recallinq the report of the Secretary-General dated 2 May 1991 concerning the establishment of the United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Boundary Demarcation Commission (the Commission), the subsequent exchange of letters of the report by the Commission (S/22558, S/22592 and S/22593) and the acceptance of Iraq and Kuwait,
Having considered the Secretary-General's final report transmitted to the Security Council by letter of 21 May 1993 (S/25811 and Add.1) dated 20 May 1993,
Recalling in this connection that through the demarcation process the Commission was tasked with setting out the precise coordinates of the boundary between Kuwait and Iraq for the first time, and that this task was carried out under special circumstances following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait and pursuant to resolution 687 (1991),
Reminding Iraq of its obligations under resolution 687 and under other relevant resolutions of the Council, and of its acceptance of the resolutions of the Council adopted pursuant to Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, which forms the basis for the cease-fire,
Noting with approval the Secretary-General's instruction to finalize the realignment of the international boundary between Iraq and Kuwait with the entire demilitarized zone demarcated by the Commission.
Welcoming the Secretary-General's decision to make the necessary arrangements for the maintenance of the physical boundary, recommended by the Commission in Section X (c) regarding the representation of its report for this purpose, the technical arrangements are established between Iraq and Kuwait.
Acting under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, the President of the Council welcomes the 20 May 1993 report of the Secretary-General (S/25811 and Add.1) enclosed therewith;
1. Welcomes also the successful conclusion of the work of the Commission;
2. Expresses its appreciation to the Commission for its work on the land boundary and welcomes the boundary as its demarcation decisions; as the Khor Abdullah or offshore section of the boundary;
3. Reaffirms that the decisions of the boundary are final; the Commission regarding the demarcation of the international boundary;
4. Demands that Iraq and Kuwait respect the inviolability of the international boundary, as demarcated by the Commission, in accordance with international law and relevant international resolutions;
5. Underlines and reaffirms its decision to guarantee the inviolability of the above-mentioned international boundary which has now all been finally demarcated by the Commission and to take necessary measures to that end in accordance with the Charter, as provided for in paragraph 4 of resolution 687 (1991) and paragraph 4 of resolution 773 (1992);
6. Decides to remain seized of the matter.
