I should like to inform the Council that I have received from the representative of Turkey a letter in which he requests that Mr. Rauf Denktag should be invited to participate in the consideration of the item on the agenda. Members of the Council have before them the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations operation in Cyprus for the period 1 December 1977 to 31 May 1978 [S/12723 and Add.]]. In addition, the Council has before it the text of the draft resolution contained in document S/12739, which was prepared in the course of consultations among the members of the Council. 1. The PRESIDENT (interpretation .fhom Spanish j: I should like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to my friend and colleague, the representative of Venezuela, Ambassador RubBn Carpio Castillo, who presided over the Council last month. I pay a tribute to the diplomatic mastery, tact and skill with which he conducted the proceedings of the Council. In fulfilling my duties as President, I shall endeavour to live up to the high standards he set. 5. I shall now put the draft resolution to the vote. Adoption of the agenda 71~ agenda was adopted.
