The Council will now begin consideration of the item on its agenda. The Security Council is meeting today pursuant to an agreement reached during prior consultations. Members of the Council have before them document S/19823, which contains the report of the Mission Dispatched by the Secretary-General to Investigate Allegations of the Use of Chemical Weapons in the Conflict between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq. Members of the Council also have before them document S/19869, which contains a draft resolution submitted by the Federal Republic of Germany, Italy and Japan. I understand that the Council is ready to vote on the draft resolution before it. If I hear no objection, I shall now put the draft resolution to the vote. There being no objection, it is so decided. A vote was taken by show of hands. In favour: Algeria, Argentina, Braiil, China, France, Germany, Federal Republic of, Italy, Japan, Nepal, Senegal, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, United States of America, Yugoslavia, Zambia I The PRESIJQNT (interpretation from French): There were 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has therefore.been adopted unanimously as resolution 612 (1988). I.have no speakers on my list. The Security Council has therefore come to the end of the present stage of its consideration of the item on its agenda. The meeting rose at 4 p.m.
