The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on the agenda. The Council is meeting today, in accordance with the understanding reached in I,. the Counci'I-Is consultations, to consider the report (S/20093) of the Secretary-General on the implementation of operative paragraph 2 of Security Council resolution 598 (1987). Members of the Council have before them document S/20097, which contains the text of a draft resolution prepared in the Council's consultations. It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the draft resolution before it. If I hear no objection, I shall put the draft resolution to the vote now.
