The Security Council will nOw begin its consideration of
The Security Council is meeting today in accordance with the item on its agenda.
the understanding reached .in the Council's prior consultations.
Members of the Council have the following documents before them: s/20336,
letter dated 17 December 1988 from the Permanent Representative of Angola to the
United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General; S/20337, letter dated
17 December 1988 from the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations
addressed to the Secretary-General; and S/20338, report of the Secretary-General.
Metiers of the Council also have before them document S/28339, which contains
the text of a draft resolution prepared in the course of the Cotincil’s
consul tations.
It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the
draft resolution before it. Unless I-hear any objection, I shall put the draft
resolution to the vote now.
There being no oh jection, it is so decided.
A vote was taken by show of hands.
In favour: Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Federal
Republic of, Italy, Japan, Nepal, Senegal, Union of Soviet
Socialist Republics, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland, United States of America, Yugoslavia, Zambia
The'PRESmDENT: There were 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has
therefore been adopted unanimously as resolution 626 (1988).
The Security Council has thus concluded the present stage of its consideration
of the item on its agenda.
