The agenda was adopted.
The situation between Eritrea and Ethiopia Report of the Secretary-General on Ethiopia and Eritrea (S/2002/744)
The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Security Council is meeting in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.
Members have before them the report of the Secretary-General on Ethiopia and Eritrea, document S/2002/744.
I should like to draw attention to two letters dated 5 July 2002 and 29 July 2002, respectively, from the Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council, contained in documents S/2002/732 and S/2002/853.
Members of the Council also have before them document S/2002/924, which contains the text of a
draft resolution prepared in the course of the Council’s prior consultations.
It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the draft resolution. Unless I hear any objection, I shall put the draft resolution to the vote now.
There being no objection, it is so decided.
