S/PV.6814 Security Council

Under rule 37 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure, I invite the representative of Somalia to participate in this meeting. The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. Members of the Council have before them document S/2012/575, which contains the text of a draft resolution submitted by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I should like to draw the attention of the members of the Council to document S/2012/544, which contains the text of a letter dated 11 July 2012 from the Chair of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolutions 751 (1992) and 1907 (2009), concerning Somalia and Eritrea, addressed to the President of the Security Council and transmitting the report on Somalia of the of the Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea, and to document S/2012/545, which contains the text of a letter dated 11 July 2012 from the Chair of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolutions 751 (1992) and 1907 (2009), concerning Somalia and Eritrea, addressed to the President of the Security Council and transmitting the report focusing on Eritrea of the Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea. It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the draft resolution before it. I shall put the draft resolution to the vote now.

There were 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 2060 (2012). The Security Council has thus concluded the present stage of its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Council will remain seized of the matter.
