VI. Resolutions adopted on the reports of the Third C'ommittee 209 retary-General on the Fund to be submitted to the General Assembly at its thirty-ninth session: 13. Takes note with appreciation ofthc measures taken by the Secretary-General, in response to resolution 37 /62, to improve and streamline thc administration ofthe Fund; 14. Commends the United Nations Development Pro- gramme on its continuing tf'('hnical and rcsource assist- ance to the Fund: 15. Requests the Sccretary-General: (a) To continue to report annually on the managcment of the Fund and on the progrcss of its activitics and to include in bis report to the General Assembly at its thirty- ninth session information on thc implementation of meas- ures taken in response to paragraph 3 above: (b) To continue, on an annual basis. to include the Fund among the programmes for which funds are plcdged at the United Nations Pledging Conference for Develop- ment Activities. Devclopment and Peacc, Taking into account the resolutions, declarations, con- ventions and recommendations of the U nited Nations, the specialized agencies and international confcrences designed to eliminate ali forms of discrimination against women, as well as those relating to thc suppression of traf- fic in persons and thc exploitation of thc prostitution of others, including Economic and Social Council resolution 1983/30 of 26 May 1983. Convinced of the importancc of thc full integration of women in the social. political and economic activities of their community, Bearing in mind the esscntial role of women in the wel- fare of the family and the development of society, Considering that prostitution and the accompanying evil of the traffic in persons for the purpose of prostitution are incompatible with the dignity and worth of the human person and endanger the welfare of the individual. the family and the community, Further considering that women and children are still ali too often victims of physical abuse and sexual cxploita- tion, Mindful that the prevailing economic and social condi- tions are largely responsible for the continued existence of the social problems of prostitution and traffic in pcrsons, 1. Urges Member States to take ali appropriate humane measures, including legislation, to combat prosti- tution, exploitation of the prostitution of others and ali forms of traffic in persons; 2. Appeals to Member States to provide special protec- tion to victims of prostitution through measures including education, social guarantees and employment opportuni- ties for those victims with a view to their rehabilitation: 3. Preparations for the World Conference to Review and Appraise the Achievements of the United '.\lations Decade for Women Thc <iencral Assemhlr, Recalling its resolution 3520 (XXX) of 15 December 1975, in which it endorsed, inter afia, the action proposals contained in the World Plan of Aetion for the lmplcmen- tation of the Objectives of the International Women's Year. 1'·' Recalling its resolution 3490 (XXX) of 12 December 1975. in which it expressed its conviction that a compre- hcnsive and thorough review and appraisal of progress made in meeting the goals ofthe World Plan of Action was of crucial importance for the success ofthe Plan and recog- nized that the results of the implementation of the Plan would contribute to the consideration of the review and appraisal of the International Development Strategy for the Second United Nations Development Dccade 13" and would consequently promotc the role of women in the development process, Recalling its resolution 351136 of 11 December 1980, in which it endorsed the Programmc of Action for the Second Half of thc United Nations Decade for Womcn i-7 as adoptcd at the World Conferencc of the United Nations Decade for Women, and decided to convene in 1985, at the conclusion of thc Decade, a World Confcrencc to Review and Appraise the Achievements of the United Nations Decade for Women, Recalling a/so that the International Development Strat- egy for the Third United Nations Development Decade 138 stressed that the important set of measures to improve the status of women contained in the World Plan of Action adopted at Mexico City in 1975, 135 and the important agreed measures relating to the Intemational Development Strategy in the Programme of Action for the Second Half of the United Nations Decade for Women, adopted at Copenhagen in 1980, should be implemented, Rccalling further its resolution 37/60 of 3 December 1982, in which it welcomed the decision of the Economic and Social Council that the Commission on the Status of Women should actas the preparatory body for the Confer- ence and noted that the Commission would hold its first session in that eapacity at Vienna from 23 February to 4 March 1983, Taking into consideration Economic and Social Council decision 1983/132 of 26 May 1983 on the recommenda- tions of the Commission on the Status of Women as the preparatory body for the Conference as set forth in its report, 139 and Council resolution 1983/28 of 26 May (l lnited Nations publication.
