United Nations A/RES/80/56 General Assembly Distr.: General 5 December 2025 25-20006 (E) *2520006* Eightieth session Agenda item 99 (jj) General and complete disarmament: addressing the legacy of nuclear weapons: providing victim assistance and environmental remediation to Member States affected by the use or testing of nuclear weapons Resolution adopted by the General Assembly on 1 December 2025 [on the report of the First Committee (A/80/534, para. 7)] 80/56. Modalities of the 2026 meeting on victim assistance and environmental remediation The General Assembly, Recalling its resolutions 78/240 of 22 December 2023 and 79/60 of 2 December 2024, Welcoming the decision contained therein for the Secretary-General to convene a one-day meeting on victim assistance and environmental remediation that encouraged participants to produce a series of recommendations based on the discussions, 1. Decides that the formal meeting will be held in early 2026 at United Nations Headquarters, with conference services and with the participation of Member States, observer States and observers of the United Nations General Assembly, where they will share their relevant experience; 2. Also decides that the Secretary-General shall invite civil society representatives, including from organizations accredited to the Economic and Social Council, as well as relevant United Nations agencies, scientists, representatives of communities affected by the use, production and testing of nuclear weapons, and academia; 3. Encourages participation at the highest possible level; 4. Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its eighty-first session, under the item entitled “General and complete disarmament”, the sub-item entitled “Addressing the legacy of nuclear weapons: providing victim assistance and environmental remediation to Member States affected by the use or testing of nuclear weapons”. 52nd plenary meeting 1 December 2025
